Bernhards Ogutu is a Senior Clinical Scientist with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Senior Clinical Trialist with the Malaria Clinical Trials Alliance of the INDEPTH-Network. He is also Director for the Centre for Research in Therapeutic Sciences (CREATES) at Strathmore University in Nairobi.

He has authored more than 180 peer reviewed publications. His areas of research expertise includes clinical trials, disease pathogenesis, and clinical therapeutics with a bias in malaria and clinical trials capacity development.

He has been involved in a number of malaria vaccine and drug trials at the KEMRI Centres in Kisumu and Kilifi. Ogutu has had keen interest on malaria diagnosis as an endpoint to malaria trials and was instrumental to the set up of the Malaria diagnostic Centre of excellence at KEMRI, Kisumu.
