Uchenna Elemuwa

Pharm Uchenna Geraldine Elemuwa is the Director of Pharmacovigilance National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Nigeria

She is an experienced pharmacist qualified from the University of Jos (BPHARM). She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy (MPHARM) as well as a Master’s in Industrial Labour & Relations (MILR) and a PhD in Clinical Pharmacotherapy. She is a Fellow of the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists (FWAPC) and has attended various professional development engagements globally.

Pharm Uchenna Elemuwa was the Chairperson Expert Working Group (EWG) on Clinical Trial, Pharmacovigilance, and Medicine Safety for the ECOWAS Medicine Regulatory Harmonization Programme from 2016 to 2022. She is the current Chairperson for the EWG on Pharmacovigilance and safety monitoring from 2023 to date and the Lead for the African Union Smart Safety Surveillance (AU 3S) Project in Nigeria. She is a Member of the National Coordinating Committee of the National Expert Committee on Adverse Events following Immunization (AEFI) Causality Assessment in Nigeria.

Pharm Uchenna Elemuwa has worked with several stakeholders both at the National and international levels to ensure Pharmacovigilance is entrenched into the Nigerian Health System. This has been reflected in the number of ADR and AEFI reports submitted to the National Pharmacovigilance Center (NPC) thus ensuring patient safety.
