Dr Kimberley Gutu
Kimberley Gutu is a medical doctor and researcher at Wits-Alive, where she works as Programme Manager on the BRAVE project (Background Rates of Adverse Events for Vaccine Evaluation in Africa)—a CEPI-funded, multi-country initiative implemented in collaboration with the Global Vaccine Data Network (GVDN) across the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda. Her work focuses on strengthening vaccine safety surveillance systems in diverse, real-world settings, with a particular interest in how multi-country collaboration, operational design, and context-aware approaches can improve data quality and public health impact. She brings over four years of experience in research programme management, working closely with academic institutions, government health authorities, and international partners across Sub-Saharan Africa. Kimberley also contributes to global vaccine safety science through her involvement with the International Network of Special Immunisation Services (INSIS), where she serves on the publication committee, and her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including work on COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance, vaccine hesitancy, and influenza vaccine uptake in African settings. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, being in nature, and seeking out new experiences.
