All visitors to Namibia must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity after date of entry, and at least 3 blank pages for entry/exit stamps.
A visa is required by default — except for travelers from countries with which Namibia has a visa-exemption agreement.
Nationals of certain countries are exempt from visas and can travel visa-free for stays up to 90 days (for tourism/business).
Visa Options: E-Visa and Visa-on-Arrival
Since 1 April 2025, Namibia offers both an online e-Visa and a Visa-on-Arrival scheme.
How to apply / where:
Visa-on-Arrival (or e-Visa) applications are processed via the MHAISS portal: applicants must register and submit required documents online before travel.
On arrival at port of entry, travellers must present their approved e-Visa (printed) or — if applying on arrival — complete the entry/arrival form at the immigration counter.
Ports of entry where this applies:
Major airports (e.g. Hosea Kutako International Airport, Walvis Bay International Airport) and many land border posts.
Visa Fee Structure & Duration
For travellers from non-African countries: NAD 1,600 for Visa-on-Arrival / e-Visa.
For many African countries: NAD 1,200.
For children aged 6–11: half price (i.e. NAD 800 for non-African countries, NAD 600 for African countries). Children under 6 are usually exempt.
The Visa-on-Arrival / e-Visa allows a stay up to 90 days per calendar year (for tourism or business/visitor purposes).
Entry Requirements & Supporting Documents
Whether applying online in advance or on arrival, travellers should have the following ready:
Passport valid for ≥ 6 months, with ≥ 3 blank pages for stamps.
Return or onward ticket / proof of onward travel.
For e-Visa: completed visa application form via MHAISS portal, passport scan, passport-type photo, travel itinerary or proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address).
Proof of sufficient funds to cover stay.
For travellers arriving with children: full birth certificate and parental consent letter if minors.
For those without e-Visa (using Visa-on-Arrival): complete an arrival form (often provided on flight or at entry point) and sign it before immigration officer.
Visa-Exempt Countries & Who Needs Visa
Nationals of certain countries are visa-exempt for stays up to 90 days. Examples: some African countries, and a select list of others depending on bilateral agreements.
All other visitors must apply for e-Visa or Visa-on-Arrival.
Because the list of visa-exempt countries and eligible countries for Visa-on-Arrival can change over time, you should refer to the official MHAISS “Visa Requirement” fact sheet or direct people to the MHAISS portal for the latest list.
